Introduction
Are you looking to increase your leg and core strength, flexibility, and balance? In 1998, Hunter Joslin, an avid surfer, skateboarder, and founder of Indo boards, released Indo Board Balance Trainer to train surfers outside the water. The idea was to use Indo board as a surfing simulator. However, to Hunter’s surprise, users started reporting increased strength and flexibility. Since then, Indo Board Balance Trainer has taken a new name Indo Board Original but continued to offer fun and functional training that has helped hundreds of world athletes all across the globe.
Indo Original deck overview
The Indo Original Board’s deck is wider than most other balance boards. A wider board lets you move around the board freely and enables many fitness exercises. The decks aren’t only functional but also stylish, with their unique design and vibrant seascape artwork. Here are some key features and dimensions that set the Indo deck apart from other balance boards:
- The original deck measures 30″ x 18″ (76cm x 45cm); that’s a little short for my preference. If you’re above 6ft, I’d recommend verifying if the board size fits you. However, the boards’ width enables different variations of exercises. Not only can you easily do pushups or planks facing the board like any other balance board, but you can also perform the same exercises across the board’s length with a new balancing challenge.
- Depending on where you’re looking, the weight limit is from 250 lbs to 350 lbs, although the decks are made from baltic birch plywood, and it feels like it could hold an elephant. I’ve seen multiple Indo boards in Cable parks and surf schools where you could tell they’ve been ridden for many hours, yet the decks are without cracks and in decent condition.
- Available in 12 styles for you to choose from, one of which is just a white canvas to make your unique board.
Balance board Stoppers and safety
The Indo Boards are genuinely a classic from 1998, there are no stoppers, magnetic or wooden, but they have a nice edge bumper that will stop the board from flying out. I’ve really enjoyed the non-slip coating on this board. The texture is easy on bare feet and gives a decent grip.
Indo Board Roller
Hands down one of the most fantastic rollers on the market, it might look intimidating at first being 6,5″ (16,5cm) in diameter and 18″(45cm) in length, but once you get used to it, it’s hard to return to smaller ones. This plastic roller is long enough that it enables you to traverse the whole board comfortably and is tall enough to make balancing difficult. For me, this is the best roller I’ve used so far. The only downside is that it costs almost 100$ if bought separately.
Ideal use cases for Indo Balance Board
Indo Original Balance Board is a universal tool for improving balance, core strength, and overall fitness. Being a shorter and broader board, it has excellent applications in fitness and is helpful in many exercises. Also, it’s a fantastic board for working next to a standing desk. The deck form enables wide foot placement and makes you feel stable, which lets you balance and focus on work.

Is the Indo Balance Board Original worth the Steep price tag?
The usual balance board with a roller bundle costs just under 200$, and it feels a little pricy, especially since the product is imported from China. But if you break that bundle into the individual products that Indo sells, the price starts to make sense. The Original wooden deck itself is priced roughly at 100$. That’s a reasonable price for good looking durable balance board. The roller is almost 100$, which is expensive, but still it’s the best roller I’ve ever used.
